Position Summary
The Senior Vice President, Global Tax is responsible for Marriott Vacations Worldwide’s Corporation (MVW) global tax provision and SEC disclosures for income taxes. The Senior Vice President oversees all United States federal and international tax compliance and tax audits for MVW to ensure accurate and timely filing of returns as well as to identify and implement tax planning strategies that reduce effective tax rate and minimize cash tax costs. The Senior Vice President also leads and manages operations of the U.S. and international direct and indirect tax groups and provides ongoing tax consulting and guidance in support of existing and new business initiatives of the company.
This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer, and based in our corporate headquarters in Orlando, Florida.
Specific Job Summary & Expected Contributions
- Responsible for a team of professionals worldwide that will direct the completion for all tax filing requirements (US federal and state income taxes, Foreign Income and value added taxes, sales and use taxes, and other informational tax reporting) resulting from MVW’s business.
- Managing and ensuring the accuracy of quarterly income tax accrual processes working closely with the financial accounting team. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data and reports produced in the department, through the systemic monitoring of key performance measures and the auditing of key reports on a sampling basis
- Ensuring that internal controls are designed and operating effectively
- Develop, assess, and implement global tax planning projects to maximizes consolidated financial results and supports business objectives, design process improvements, and oversee and maintain tax advantaged financing structures.
- Responsible for transfer pricing analysis and documentation for MVW’s cross border transactions.
- Lead the implementation of tax strategies within MVW by partnering with business leaders to advise on and implement new strategies and processes to support division level tax initiatives and compliance.
- Manages federal, state and international audits with emphasis on achieving superior results and resolving tax issues in a timely and efficient manner
- Oversee global tax transformation initiatives through tax operations and technology projects
- Reviews US and foreign legislation that may impact MVW's global operations and the development and implementation of appropriate responses and strategies.
- Assists the Senior Vice President, Treasury with tax planning issues to facilitate cash repatriation as well as forecast for cash tax payments.
- Manages contractual obligations under tax sharing agreement with former parent company
- Manages and develops staff through effective and timely supervision, training, performance management and appraisal
Specific Candidate Profile
Education or Certification
- Four-year degree in tax, accounting, business management or related discipline required.
- CPA or J.D preferred
Experience
- Minimum 15 years of with a public accounting firm and/or demonstrated progressive and relevant tax planning and/or tax compliance experience with exposure to complex tax transactions.
- Working knowledge and understanding of U.S. income tax rules including reporting requirements for international transactions, subpart F, and foreign tax credits.
- Working knowledge of income tax treaty provisions (withholding and permanent establishment exposure) cross-border financing, tax efficient repatriation strategies, and transfer pricing.
- An understanding of ASC 740.

- Demonstrated experience of very high levels of technical proficiency in US and foreign taxation matters; highly proficient in corporate and partnership matters, mergers and acquisitions, and the understanding of the values and pricing of tax attributes, real estate and financial products.
- Demonstrated familiarity with accounting practices and concepts as they relate to tax matters and how transactions are "booked," and a high degree of familiarity with financial products and their use, as well as general financial analytical skills.
- Experience working with third party sourcing arrangements a plus.
- Strong business acumen.
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex tax matters to non-tax leaders.
- Knowledge/experience of international business practices a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of, and effectively resolve problems
