As a member of the professional staff, contributes specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support team and/or department business objectives. Job Summary
The Director, Worker Compensation’s primary function is the oversight of high-level workers compensation claims and responsibility for claims management initiatives impacting resort operations, safety and security, and human resources. The Director acts as the subject matter expert for workers compensation claims. In addition, the Director is responsible for the production, analysis and distribution of claims data which measure the value of the claims oversight program. This includes initiating, monitoring, and measuring the benefit of claims reporting and cost containment programs. The position is responsible for the training, supervision, and expansion of the nurse care management program.
Position will report to the AVP, Global Claims and supervise at least two manager level positions.
Expected Contributions
- Provides strategy direction to senior HR, GS&S and Resort Operations leadership and manages workers compensation claims within the captive.
- Responsible for managing the workers compensation claims within the captive worth multi millions of dollars on behalf of The WAVE Insurance Company. Create and manage the business processes for managing workers compensation claims including projects, setting priorities and measurable objectives, monitoring, and reporting on the process, progress and results.
- Responsible for the implementation and oversight of WC cost containment initiatives
- Develop the workers compensation data matrix with the support and through managing third party vendors.
- Responsible for data production and distribution of claims trends and results to Leadership & Operations
- Develop and present training platforms.
- Manage workers compensation and other employment related claims globally with notification to AVP for reserves and/or settlements that exceed $250,000.
- Review adequacy of reserve and help develop disposition strategies for workers’ compensation.
- Responsible for providing technical guidance in the investigation, reserving, and disposition of claims (workers’ compensation, general liability, property, and D&O)
- Manage and resolve issues with subpoenas, request for production and other requests.
- Keep current on coverage applicable workers compensation laws.
- Manages outside defense counsel and litigation strategies. Provide defense selection based on region and case complexity.
- Attend mediations to facilitate claim resolution.
- Collaborate with Safety & Security leaders to identify claims trends and coordinating investigations and develop related executive level reporting.
- After conducting a thorough claims review, provide concurrence or rejections of denials
- Monitor the work product of dedicated adjuster teams and provide guidance, recommendations, or direction.
- Develop action plans to guide claims to the best possible resolution.
- Lead quarterly claims reviews.
- Manage, supervise, train, assign tasks, and direct the work of a casualty claims manager and a nurse care manager.
- Author a quarterly Lessons from Losses to be distributed to Operations and Executive Leadership
- Responsible for the bi-annual dashboard to measure the success of the Nurse Care Program
- Coordinate with the AVP regarding the expansion of the Nurse Care Program
- Develop, distribute and maintain cost containment toolbox for resort leadership.
- Work closely with the Nurse Care Manager and HR teams for return-to-work program and other employee related matters.
- Manage communications and escalations between properties/associations and the insurance carriers.
- Create presentations and provide training to operations to assist our loss control efforts.
- Assist the Insurance & Finance team with potentially high-risk business case reviews and provide support and guidance as needed.
- Build relationships with multiple internal stakeholders to drive program improvements and implementations (limited travel to various properties)
- Collaborate with Risk Management directors for implementation of a risk data framework and data governance.
- Provide the law department/litigation group support and guidance as needed for insured claims.
- Manage the claims and internal processes of occupational diseases; including perform investigations alongside sites, and research evolving litigation, providing guidance to Operations as it pertains to these claims.
- Special projects as needed.
Education requirements
- Four-year degree required.
- AIC, ARM, CPCU preferred and/or professional claims training from an insurance company of recognized responsibility.
Experience level
- Minimum of 10 years claims adjusting/oversight experience
